A Day of Keeping Chicago Heights Warm – Life as a HVAC Service Tech

5:30 AM – Rise and Shine

The day starts early when you’re responsible for keeping homes comfortable and cozy throughout Chicago Heights and the surrounding communities. After checking my JTR Energy service schedule, I load up my truck with the essential parts and tools needed for today’s appointments.

7:00 AM – First Call of the Day

My first stop is in Frankfort, where a family needs their furnace inspected before winter hits full force. These preventative maintenance calls are crucial – they help catch small issues before they become major problems during the coldest months.

10:30 AM – Emergency Service

The dispatcher radios in with an urgent call from Matteson. An elderly resident’s heating system has completely shut down. These are the moments when our job matters most – ensuring our community’s most vulnerable neighbors stay warm and safe.

Common Tasks Throughout the Day:

  • Performing detailed furnace inspections
  • Replacing worn components
  • Cleaning and maintaining heating systems
  • Educating homeowners about proper system care
  • Documenting all service work

3:00 PM – New Installation

The afternoon involves coordinating with our installation team in Monee for a new heating system setup. It’s satisfying to know that another family will have reliable heat for the coming winter months.

5:30 PM – Wrapping Up

Before heading back to base, I ensure all service reports are complete and the truck is restocked for tomorrow. Being a heating service technician at JTR Energy means being prepared for whatever tomorrow brings – whether in Peotone, Crete, or anywhere else in our service area.

The most rewarding part of this job is knowing that every furnace repair and heating service call helps keep our local communities warm and comfortable, especially during those harsh Illinois winters.
